THE GOODWOOD ESTATE

Goodwood is England’s greatest sporting estate. Seat of the Dukes of Richmond for over three centuries, the family has always welcomed their friends and guests to share in their love of sport. Hunting, shooting, cricket, horseracing, golf, flying and motor racing have all been introduced by enthusiastic family members.

Goodwood has been at the heart of the English summer season for at least two hundred years. It hosts the internationally famous Festival of Speed, the ‘Glorious’ Qatar Goodwood Festival and Goodwood Revival, three of the largest events in the British sporting and social calendar.

Within its 12,000 acres, Goodwood is home to one of the largest lowland organic farms in England, a famous Battle of Britain airfield, a historic racecourse and motor circuit, two golf courses and one of the oldest cricket grounds in

FESTIVAL OF SPEED

In the summer of 1936 racing driver and Brooklands winner, Freddie March (the then Earl of March) staged a private hill climb for the Lancia Car Club on the winding drive in front of Goodwood House. In the winter of 1992, his grandson, the present Earl of March, recreated that motorsport event; the following summer the Festival of Speed was born and quickly became part of the British social and sporting calendar.

Now the largest and greatest celebration of car culture in the world the Festival of Speed, uniquely supported by the current F1 teams, attracts the most famous and accomplished drivers, in the world’s rarest and most exotic machinery, to compete up Goodwood’s legendary 1.16 mile hill climb.
